About Crescent Head
The historic surfing village of Crescent Head is located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, just 5 hours drive north of Sydney, 3 hours from Newcastle and 6 hours from Brisbane.
Crescent Head is renowned for its Point Break which brought masses of people here in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s and was dedicated as a National Surfing Reserve back in May 2008. Other activities include paddle boarding, fishing, swimming, relaxing on the beach or exploring the beautiful National Park that surrounds Crescent Head.
Marine Life & Fishing
Surfers are often joined on the waves by dolphins and Crescent Head is visited by migrating whales as they cruise North and South. Stingrays are often seen basking on the sand and loggerhead turtles are a special treat when surfing the point.
The sea is abundant with blackfish, bream, and drummer feeding off the Black Boulder. Pelagic species including taylor, mackerel, and salmon move through the waters with jewfish and snapper all year round. Those who have boats will find scattered reef from here to Point Plomer with Plomer Bay producing quality snapper.
